“Exploring the East Coast, we came along the Francis Marion National Forest in South Carolina and discovered the Sumter National Forest in northwestern South Carolina.

I decided to take a couple days to explore and try dry camping in my recently acquired truck camper.  I stopped in the Ranger Station at Andrew Pickens District and the ranger suggested a couple of the free campsites.

This photo was taken along a gravel road on the Chattooga River (Deliverance River) at Long Bottom Ford Campground.  There were about ten free campsites that are first come, first serve with a fire ring and a lantern post.  I had a great time.”

“On our Northstar’s maiden-voyage trip to the southwest, we found this unexpected gem of a campsite after traveling off-road.

Thanks to our solar panel system, we boondocked, enjoyed campfires, scrambled up rocky ridges, explored historic ruins, and viewed starry skies in absolute privacy.

Our traveling companion, Lil’ Guy, insisted on being in this photo.”

“I went to Pathfinder Reservoir in Wyoming for dry camping and fishing.  My boat is on the beach just out of the picture.  It was my second trip to this spot this spring.  The fishing was great and the weather was good.

Pathfinder Reservoir is a nice size lake where I have caught Rainbow, Brown and Cutthroat Trout.  Pathfinder is about 40 miles west of Casper, Wyoming.  The campgrounds offer dry camping with a picnic table shelter and a restroom for $10 a day.  There are also places to camp on the lake’s edge.”

“While camping at Beartooth Lake Campground in Shoshone National Forest, I took the road to the Clay Butte Lookout Tower.  It’s off the Beartooth Highway, US 212, in northern Wyoming.  The view of the Absaroka Mountains from almost 10,000 feet was magnificent.”
