Doug and Tammie Baughman, organizers of the Midwest Truck Camper Group, sent in the following report and photos from the recent truck camper gathering in Branson, Missouri.
“We had five rigs show up for the social gathering in Branson, Missouri. It was the hottest week of the summer during our gathering.
We sat around in the mornings and evenings when it was the coolest, and got to know a whole new group of people with some great conversations.
During the heat of the day, we went out on the town. As a group we went to Fat Daddy’s for a private BBQ lunch of brisket, ribs, baked beans, potato salad and homemade potato chips. The meal was enjoyed by all and we brought the leftovers back to the campground and had enough for another meal.
After Fat Daddy’s, most of the group went to Top of the Rock. Top of the Rock was created by Johnny Morris, majority owner of Bass Pro Shops.
Top of the Rock has a museum and a legendary golf course.
It also has a two-and-a-half mile self-guided golf cart tour through the woods, into caves with water falls, and through covered bridges.
It was beautiful. We had several just go through the museum and the rest of us did the golf cart ride and museum.
Another day we went to College of the Ozarks where we went and saw their grinding mill, weaving studio, milking dairy (which was closed), and tractor museum.
We also saw the college’s beautiful chapel, green house, and horticultural department. It was a nice, relaxing day to just hang out with the group. There were even a few that tried the homemade ice cream made on campus by the students.
Before we knew it the gathering was over, and it was time for everyone to head home. As always, we met another great group of people, and had the best time with them just socializing. We all exchanged information so we could all keep in touch and look forward to seeing each other again at another Midwest Truck Campers and Friends event.”
